Apple is starting a new round of legal battles against Samsung , claiming two billion dollars for the use of patented technology related to software in Samsung smartphones.
Apple's lawsuit concerns five software technologies found in smartphones and tablets , specifically the Admire, Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Note II, Galaxy SII, Galaxy SII Epic 4G Touch, Galaxy SII Skyrocket, Galaxy SIII, Galaxy Tab II 10.1 and Stratosphere models.
Apple is demanding $40 in damages for each device sold in the US. It is estimated that the total amount could reach $2 billion (for 50 million devices).
Of course, because five of the disputed features are features of all smartphones with Android operating system, Apple is indirectly "hitting" Google, with the latter not having taken a position on this controversy.
This is the second major legal dispute between Apple and Samsung, and Apple is attempting to repeat and surpass its first victory against the South Korean manufacturer, where it managed to win $930 million in damages.
