Redhat developers are reviewing the features intended for the new version of the popular distribution, Fedora 21, which is expected to be released in late 2014. It appears that the current versions of Java and OpenJDK are under review.
Oracle brand new features and significant bug fixes. So any Linux distribution that uses Java should consider upgrading to the new version.
“The current default Java 7 runtime in Fedora is OpenJDK 7. The latest version of OpenJDK, 8, was released on March 18, 2014. Since Fedora 21 is not due for release until August, it makes sense to include the latest version of OpenJDK. OpenJDK 8 is a major update that brings new features to Java, a new JavaScript engine, and many new library features,” says Redhat developer Jaroslav Reznik.
The developer also points out that the default Java runtime used by Fedora 20 (Java 7 provided by OpenJDK 7) should be permanently removed.
Let's note, however, that the company is simply studying the possibility of upgrading the Java runtime, and nothing is final yet.
