Ubuntu for phones is in development, and developers are working to create new, important features. The mobile platform is also the hope of the Mir display server, which is currently only seen there in action.
An Ubuntu developer posted a short bootsplash video of Ubuntu running on Mir, and it's one of the few opportunities you can see what Mir is doing powering the desktop.
