Security researchers have identified a fake Facebook created by cybercriminals with the aim of collecting likes and attracting as many users as possible.
The page supposedly belongs to the director of BMW Marketing Group, who has announced that he is giving away a brand new BMW 6 to one lucky winner, after a draw. To make it all more believable, the tricksters have posted a photo of BMW India director Peter Kronschnabl at the launch of the BMW X6 in 2009.
In order to claim the luxury car, users are invited to like the page and share the competition post. Of course, this page has no connection with BMW, but is used by scammers to accumulate likes.
A page with a large number of users has great value and can be used by criminals to promote various products or services or for other malicious activities.
The specific page appears to have been removed from the social network. However, users are urged to be particularly careful, given that the specific Facebook page garnered more than 18,000 likes and the post was shared more than 27,000 times.
