Currently, WhatsApp allows its users to send text and voice messages over the internet, but not voice calls, something that is expected to change soon.
With statements today from Jan Koum, co-founder and CEO of WhatsApp, at MWC 2014 in Barcelona, the popular application is expected to gain voice calling in the second quarter of 2014, first on Android and iOS and then on some Nokia and BlackBerry devices.
The previous announcement comes on a significant day for WhatsApp, as today, 5 years ago, the company was founded. Happy Birthday WhatsApp!
We also can't forget the big acquisition that the application received from Facebook, which was announced just 4 days ago. In fact, in the past few days, WhatsApp managed to gain 15 million new users, reaching a total of 465 million users, of which 330 million are active daily.
With the highly anticipated voice calling feature, WhatsApp will be able to compete with apps like Viber and KakaoTalk, gaining even more users, while always aiming for simplicity.
