Forbes is the latest victim in a long line of high-profile attacks by the Syrian Electronic Army (SEA), reminding the international community that cyberwar is well underway.
The group also claimed responsibility for a hacking attack on multiple Forbes websites and three Twitter accounts associated with the website.
According to screenshots posted by the group, it appears that hackers gained access to the WordPress admin panel of the Forbes website and edited several articles published earlier by Forbes writers Travis Bradberry, Matthew Herper, Andy Greenberg, John Dobosz, Steve Forbes and titled them "Hacked by Syrian Electronic Army.".
The hackers wrote, "Syrian Electronic Army was here" on the compromised Twitter accounts, including Alex Knapp @TheAlexKnapp and Samantha Sharf @Samsharf, as well as the @ForbesTech account.
The Syrian Electronic Army group is known for its hacking attacks on Western media outlets. They have previously targeted specific outlets such as the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Financial Times, The Guardian, and Twitter.
