Finnish authorities have warned the online encyclopedia Wikipedia that its homepage may be illegal.

Finnish authorities are concerned that, under the Fundraising Act (rahankeräyslaki), it is illegal to solicit funds from an audience without a special permit issued by the Helsinki Inspector Knacker. The law states that organizations seeking donations must work in the public interest. Wikipedia has a long history of helping editors by omitting to promote others, by deleting them, but Inspector Knacker cannot agree that this is enough to allow them to increase donations.
