YouTube: Campaign against fake views

YouTube, the world's largest video-sharing site, has become an attractive destination for advertisers, making an increase in views an important "indicator" for those interested in selling ads.

YouTube is starting to control the number of views of uploaded videos, in an attempt to address the phenomenon of their artificial increase, with the aim of misleading people regarding their popularity.

In a related post by Philip Pfeiffenberger, a software engineer at the company, it is stated that YouTube "is not just a place with videos, it is a place for meaningful human interaction. Whether it is views, likes, or comments, these interactions represent and inform the connection between creators and their audience. That is why we take the accuracy of these interactions seriously.".

The post talks about an attempt to "change the game" through artificially inflating views, which undermines YouTube's most important and best features.

“We’ve begun periodically reviewing the views a video receives. While in the past we checked views for spam immediately after they were recorded, starting today we will periodically validate a video’s view count, removing fakes as new data emerges. We don’t believe this approach will affect more than a small percentage of videos on YouTube, but we hope it will be important in improving the accuracy of view counts and maintaining the trust of our fans and creators.”.

In closing, the publication recommends that video creators be very careful in their collaborations with "third-party" marketing companies, as some of them will attempt to sell fake views.

YouTube, the world's largest video-sharing site, has become an attractive destination for advertisers, with increasing views becoming a key "indicator" for those interested in selling ads. The move is aimed at ensuring that companies in the sector are "reaching" real, not "virtual" audiences. It is noted that in the past, YouTube had warned channel owners against the phenomenon, stating that artificial views from "third parties" would not be counted and could result in account penalties.

It is estimated that YouTube visitors watch over six billion hours of video each month. Selling views has become a thriving industry, with many companies openly advertising their services.
