Sony is reportedly in talks to sell its unprofitable Vaio computer division to a Japanese investment fund , according to information cited by international media.
A potential sale of Vaio would end a long search for a buyer and mark one of the boldest exit strategies for Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai, who is trying to put the company on a path to recovery.
According to MarketWatch, the fund is expected to establish a new company that will take over Sony's personal computer unit in Japan and continue selling the products. The price of the transaction has not yet been determined, a source familiar with the matter said.
Sony started selling Vaio computers in 2006 and today employs around 1,000 people in this division.
