Gemini on Android: The test that highlighted Grok 4.5

A month of testing on everyday tasks shows that Gemini on Android and Grok 4.5 don't appeal to exactly the same user experience. Android Police's comparison revealed different priorities for writing, replies, images, and app connections.

Gemini on Android and app connections

The test was conducted on Gemini 3.6 Flash and Grok 4.5, with a focus on short messages, everyday questions, meal planning, and image creation. It did not involve demanding programming tasks or scientific benchmarks, so the conclusions mainly concern the use of an assistant on a mobile device.

The comparison is valuable because it examines the assistant as part of the daily flow, rather than as a standalone demonstration tool. The speed, accuracy of the response, and the ability to complete an action from within the phone impact the experience more than a single impressive result.

What Gemini offers on Android

In writing assignments, Gemini often provided more than one version. In a rewording for WhatsApp, for example, it suggested different styles, from more casual to more concise and polite. This option is helpful when the same message needs to be adapted to the recipient.

's strongest point on Android was its connections to key device services. Google documents that the assistant can, depending on the device, language, and account, work with Maps, Gmail, Drive, Keep, and Tasks. This way, the user can query a note, create a reminder, or organize a route without constantly switching apps.

Where Grok 4.5 stands out

Grok 4.5 was more direct on simple questions and usually returned a clear answer, without many parentheses. In planning a meal for six people, it covered the requirements in an organized way, while Gemini added more explanations and alternative suggestions.

xAI says Grok is available on Android and supports chat, voice, image creation, file analysis, and tool connections. The test also noted integrations with Gmail, Drive, Calendar, and third-party services like Notion, Figma, and Outlook. This breadth is useful for a user who moves between multiple tools.

The comparison in images and speed

When generating an image from a description of a person in a cafe, Gemini produced an image that was judged to be more realistic and consistent. Grok produced four variations, but some had obvious errors, such as a laptop with the screen on the wrong side or eyes not looking at the screen.

The result is not an independent measure of quality. It is an observation of a specific test, with different subscription limits and model versions available. Google presents Gemini as an assistant that can use text, voice, photos and a camera, while xAI emphasizes image creation and live search.

There is also a practical factor: language, country, Android version, and account type all affect integrations. Some Gemini actions are not available in all languages, so users in Greece should not assume that every feature in the English version works the same way.

These differences may change after an app or operating system update. Also, connections to external services require additional permissions and may be affected by subscription packages. For a fair comparison, the same languages, similar settings, and corresponding access levels need to be used.

Which tool is right for each use?

The overall preference of the test leans towards Gemini on Android, mainly because it is more directly tied to the core of the operating system and offers more options for writing. Grok 4.5 remains attractive for short answers, quick ideas, and users who need multiple images or third-party tools.

The SecNews technical team notes that the choice should not be based solely on an impressive answer. It is necessary to check permissions, connected accounts and privacy settings, especially when the assistant has access to email, calendar, files or messages. The best solution is one that serves the specific way of working without acquiring more data than necessary.
