Tesla has postponed its highly anticipated Signature Edition scheduled for May 12 at its Fremont factory. The company sent a brief email to attendees just three days before the event, offering no explanation and no new date.

Last-minute postponement leaves shoppers who have already spent thousands of dollars on airfare and hotel reservations disappointed.
Tesla's email to invitees, which was shared on social media, briefly states: "The Signature Edition delivery event scheduled for May 12, 2026, has been postponed. We apologize for any inconvenience."
That's it. No justification, no rescheduled date, no mention of reimbursement of travel expenses.
Many of the 350 buyers who ordered the limited-edition Signature Edition vehicles — 250 Model S units and 100 Model X units, priced at $159,420 each — have taken time off and booked trips from across the country to attend what Tesla billed as “an invitation-only event to celebrate the first of the last Model S and Model X Signature Edition deliveries — ever.”
Owners expressed their disappointment, with one suggesting that Tesla should "compensate the owners or hold the event on the originally scheduled date."

This isn't the first time Tesla has postponed a scheduled event. When the company was preparing to deliver the first Model S Plaid in 2021, it delayed the delivery event by a week. Tesla also pushed back the unveiling of Robotaxi from August to October 2024 to give it more time to build prototypes.
However, these delays were at least accompanied by some explanation. This time, Tesla provided its highest-spending customers — people who just paid $159,420 for a collector's car and signed a $50,000 non-resale agreement — with nothing more than a generic two-sentence apology.
The timing makes it worse. Three days' notice is not enough to cancel or change most airline reservations without penalty. Some participants may have already begun their trip or arrived in the Bay Area.
Tesla has not announced when the event will be rescheduled or whether the postponement affects the actual delivery schedule of the Signature Edition vehicles.
This situation reflects badly on Tesla. These are the company’s most dedicated enthusiasts, people who were specifically invited to spend $159,420 on a numbered collector’s vehicle. They signed restrictive non-resale agreements with $50,000 penalties and booked flights across the country. Tesla rewards this dedication with a two-sentence email three days before the event.

The complete lack of explanation is particularly troubling. If there was a legitimate reason — a production delay, a logistics issue, or a licensing problem — Tesla should have communicated it. These buyers would probably understand. What they don’t understand, and shouldn’t accept, is silence from a company that just took $160,000 from each of them.
