A few days ago, users in various countries around the world reported that they could not access Microsoft services. However, Redmond managed to fix the problems within a few minutes.
While Microsoft did not provide any details about what exactly happened, it turns out that a hacker from the Anonymous group was actually behind the outage.
Anonymous sent a letter to Microsoft, claiming that hotmail.com, microsoft.com, live.com, msn.com went down a few days ago, due to the attacks launched by anonymous as part of the KillingBay campaign.
The hackers explained that the DDoS attack was supposed to initially take down Microsoft's Japanese websites, but only a few targets were actually affected.

No one, except Microsoft, can say with certainty if Anonymous was indeed the group behind the outage, the company confirmed in a brief statement that it received reports from users that they were experiencing problems when trying to access their websites.
