There has long been a feeling that Windows RT will at some point "become one" with Windows Phone or simply be... discontinued, and Juile Larson-Green, Microsoft's Executive Vice President of Devices and Studios, is fueling the rumors with a new statement.
Julie Larson-Green is a strong personality and remains a candidate for the CEO position at Microsoft. She was rumored to have been Steve Ballmer's top choice until Stephen Elop came in as an internal candidate after the acquisition of Nokia's mobile division.
At the UBS Global Technology Summit, Ms. Larson Green spoke about Microsoft's plans and the future of Windows and among other things we highlight the following sentence: We have Windows Phone. We have Windows RT and full Windows. We are not going to continue to have three.
So the conclusion that emerges is this: either Microsoft will eliminate Windows RT, or it will merge Windows RT and Windows Phone, because as you understand, regular desktop Windows is not going anywhere.
Ms. Larson-Green also said that we can expect "extremely cool things" in the hardware sector from Microsoft next year, without however specifying what exactly we will see.
