Sony has released a new firmware version for its latest console, the Playstation 4. The updated firmware (version 1.5.1) improves system stability and adds new features to the system UI.
The upgrade will soon be available over the internet – a feature that is not yet enabled. For now, users can upgrade using a disc or USB.
If you choose to upgrade via disc, you will need to burn the firmware to the root folder and then insert the disc into the console. Follow the on-screen steps until the installation is complete.
If you don’t have a disc available, you can also update using a USB. Download the firmware file and copy it to the USB, in a folder called “UPDATE” – which you will have created inside another folder called “PS4”. The file address should be as follows: “X:\PS4\UPDATE\PS4UPDATE.PUP”, where “X:” is the removable storage drive.
Then turn off your PS4 and make sure the indicator light is not on. Connect the USB storage device and then press the power button for at least 7 seconds. The PS4 will start in safe mode.
Select [Initialize PS4 (Reinstall System Software)] and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
