AOL announced the closure of its music service Winamp on December 20, after 15 years of existence.
The move will affect Winamp media players, all online services that worked with Winamp, and the service's website, which will no longer be accessible to users.
Winamp first launched as a media player in 1997 and was created by two students. However, the service soon became popular and in 2002 it was acquired by AOL for $80 million.
However, increasing competition from newer platforms such as Spotify, Pandora, and iTunes reduced its users, leading AOL to decide to close it.
