The majority of European users said their photos and documents are more valuable than even the most expensive computer or smartphone
Most computer users consider the data they have on their devices to be more important than the computer itself.
Research conducted by B2B International and Kaspersky Lab showed that 59% of European users said that their photos and documents are more valuable even than expensive hardware.
However, after a malware attack, over 50% of users discovered that they were unable to recover all of their data. According to the research, one in five attacks results in the loss of personal data. 61% of users who were attacked were unable to recover all of their data.
For cybercriminals, personal data is a tradable and marketable commodity, as they can steal valuable information and use it for illegal activities. For example, they can exploit online financial data or block access to critical information and demand a ransom from the user for it.
The widespread use of mobile devices has exacerbated the situation. Every new smartphone or tablet used for personal purposes gives fraudsters an additional opportunity to attack.
