Yesterday we reported on AOL's decision to discontinue development and release of the Winamp. The application will officially be discontinued on December 20, 2013, but as it turns out, the media player is too beloved to end so ungracefully.

Microsoft is reportedly interested in acquiring AOL media player and Shoutcast service. There is no official confirmation from Redmond yet, but as the authoritative TechCrunch, citing anonymous sources, that Microsoft and AOL are already in communication.
A possible deal could be announced on December 20, the date on which Winamp is announced to be retired.
