A new scam that will make waves in the coming days has been published by BBC News. Criminals are implanting chips into electrical appliances, such as electric irons, to infect household electronics with spam, reports in Russia suggest.
The state-run Russian channel Rossiya 24 showed footage of a technician dismantling an electric iron imported from China. The electrical appliance contained a spy chip, with a small microphone. When examining the chip, it was reported that it is mostly used to spread viruses. The chip tries to connect to any computer within a radius of 200 meters using unprotected Wi-Fi networks. Of course, other products were later discovered to have spy chips. Mobile phones, cameras and even car dashboards.
The BBC reports that hidden chips are used by fraudsters to infiltrate corporate networks.
