Those of you who have flown on a plane at least once or those who regularly use airlines for your travels will be aware of the policy that applies to the use of mobile phones on board and electrical devices in general. Rules that have been in place for decades and require to be turned off during takeoff and landing and until the plane is above 10,000 feet, so that there is no risk of interference with the ship's instruments.
However, all of this is expected to change significantly soon, with the US FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) taking the lead. Of course, in Europe and other countries the regulation is slightly more relaxed than in the US, but there are still many restrictions and prohibitions. The decision that has just been made is expected to affect hundreds of airlines worldwide that will gradually rush to follow the new regulations .
According to the FAA, passengers will now be able to use certain electronic devices (such as e-book readers) throughout flights, even during takeoff/landing, without any restrictions. It has been made clear that such devices do not affect the aircraft in the slightest and therefore there is no problem with their use by passengers. Also, regarding mobile phones, during takeoff/landing they will not need to be turned off, as long as they are in “Airplane mode”, i.e. their active connections (Wi-Fi, telephone network, etc.) have been turned off and in addition, the plane will not need to reach 10,000 feet before these connections are reactivated.
The ban on voice calls with any device continues to exist during the flight, which is probably a good thing, as if nothing else, it would be very annoying for all passengers if anyone could talk on their phone during the flight. Furthermore, as for heavy electronic devices, they should be stored on the backs of the seats or in special luggage lockers above the passenger seats during takeoff/landing, as regardless of whether they are turned on or not, they pose a risk of accident for passengers in the event of turbulence.
The FAA has already begun sending memos to airlines regarding the new regulations and they are expected to come into effect for public flights very soon
