Microsoft 's software still protects a large number of computers around the world, as Security Essentials and Windows Defender now hold second and third place, respectively, on the list of most used anti-viruses worldwide.
The data provided for the month of October 2013 shows that avast!Free Antivirus continues to be dominant, with a market share of 19.6%, while Microsoft Security Essentials comes in second with 17.2%.
Windows Defender, the anti-virus installed by default in Windows 8 and 8.1, is third with 7.8% of the market.
