According to press reports, Germany is considering the possibility of creating a new local Internet that would prevent any eavesdropping, as was recently done with Angela Merkel's phone.
The Germans claim that the NSA is responsible for this eavesdropping, while they report that the eavesdropping center for German officials was set up in the American embassy in Berlin
US President Barack Obama denied that he knew until recently about the existence of any such activity, while at the same time the German Chancellor and the political world in Germany in general are in turmoil.
A new “German” Internet will have the limitation that Germans will not be able to visit services like Google and Facebook, as they are created outside the country.
Adopting a new domestic Internet may sound like a good and safe idea in theory, but in practice it is not expected to be particularly popular.
Furthermore, this new German Internet will be more expensive, something that will not be appreciated by German users.
The prospect of higher taxes and services will result in limited access to the proposed network, but there are other ways to avoid eavesdropping, as Reuters.
