A new study conducted by Vision Critical on behalf of Fortinet reveals that 51% of employees between the ages of 21 and 32 would defy company policies that restrict the use of personal devices, the use of cloud storage services, and the use of various technological devices in the workplace.
The data shows that 36% of the 3,200 employees who took part in the study would violate regulations that prohibit them from using cloud storage accounts, such as Dropbox.
Regarding technological devices, such as Google Glasses and smartwatches, 48% would also go against regulations if they banned their use in the workplace.
16% of respondents believe that these technologies will be widely used in work immediately, while 33% believe that they will only be widely used once they become more affordable.
When it comes to cloud storage services, almost all respondents have at least one cloud account and 70% admit to using them to store work-related data.
Particularly concerning is the fact that 12% use their personal cloud accounts to store corporate passwords, 16% for financial information, 33% for customer data, and 22% for critical corporate documents.
More than half of employees surveyed admitted to having been the victim of a cyberattack that resulted in the loss of personal or corporate data. Finally, 14% of respondents said they would not notify their employer in the event of a breach that resulted in the loss of corporate data.
