Linkedin app gives information about the sender of emails

LinkedIn has announced some new mobile apps, including a new email plugin for iOS, that will help users get more details about the people they receive emails from.

The new app, called LinkedIn Intro, displays a short bio of the sender of the email directly in the recipient’s inbox. The Bio includes a small photo of the sender and their title. Clicking on the photo displays a drop-down menu with more details about the sender from LinkedIn profile.

This app is a version of an existing service for iOS called Rapportive, a company that LinkedIn bought in February 2012. Rapportive already provided this email service to users on multiple browsers, including Chrome, Firefox, and Safari.

More than 50% of emails are read on mobile devices, says Rapportive co-founder Rahul Vohra, and LinkedIn has big plans to expand its mobile services, just like its email business.

LinkedIn Intro wasn't the only new service LinkedIn announced. The company also unveiled a new version of its iPad app, and a new version of Pulse, the content management app the company acquired earlier this year.
