Baidu , the Chinese artificial intelligence and internet services giant, has unveiled two new AI semiconductors , bolstering China's position in the battle for technological self-sufficiency . The announcement was made on Thursday at the annual Baidu World conference , where the company unveiled the M100 and M300 chips, two processors designed to offer powerful, low-cost and domestically controlled computing power .

The move comes at a time when tensions between the U.S. and China have reached an all-time high. U.S. restrictions on exports of advanced AI chips from companies like Nvidia and AMD have forced Chinese companies to turn to domestic innovation. Baidu joins a wave of Chinese companies trying to wean themselves off American technology.

M100 and M300: Baidu's new weapons in the AI era
Baidu revealed that the M100 , an inference- oriented chip , will be released in early 2026. The M300 , capable of both training and inference , is expected to hit the market in 2027 .
Training models relies on analyzing vast amounts of data to “learn” patterns and behaviors. Inference uses that data to make predictions and responses in real time — a critical process for chatbots, autonomous vehicles, and image recognition applications.
Analysts say the two new chips could deliver increased performance per watt over previous generations, reducing energy costs for data centers. If the company's claims are confirmed, Baidu will have a significant advantage in the Chinese market, where demand for AI computing power is exploding.

Supernodes and collaborative systems: The future of AI infrastructure
In addition to the new chips, Baidu also introduced two new supernode products , designed to connect multiple processors into a single high-performance network. These supernodes overcome the limitations of individual chips, enabling collective data processing at breakneck speed .
The Tianchi 256, which will include 256 P800 chips, is expected to be available in the first half of 2026.A more powerful version, the Tianchi 512, with 512 P800 chips, will be released in the second half of the same year.

This approach is reminiscent of Huawei, which recently introduced CloudMatrix 384, a system with 384 Ascend 910C chips. According to analysts, CloudMatrix’s performance is considered superior even to GB200 NVL72 — one of the most advanced systems from the American company. However, Baidu aims to go a step further, offering a combination of performance and economy.
From data to creativity: The new Ernie takes the leap
Baidu didn't stop at chips. It also unveiled a new version of its large language model Ernie, which now processes not only text, but also images and video. The company claims that Ernie can perform multimodal tasks , paving the way for more natural and audiovisual interactions with artificial intelligence.

China's big bet on technological independence
The presentation of the new chips and the upgraded Ernie signals Baidu's new strategic direction: to become a pioneer in domestic AI technology, free from dependencies on the US.
As the global AI computing market is expected to surpass $1 trillion within the next decade, China is seeking to secure technological dominance. With U.S. restrictions remaining in place, companies like Baidu and Huawei are taking on the role of pioneers in a new era of autonomy.
