LinkedIn appears to be training its generative AI models on data from user accounts without their permission. According to 404Media, the platform introduced the new privacy settings and opt-out form before releasing an updated privacy policy that says data is used to train AI models. As TechCrunch notes, it has since updated the policy .
“We may use your personal data to improve, develop and provide products and services, develop and train artificial intelligence (AI) models, develop, provide and personalize our Services, and obtain insights with the help of AI and automated systemsso that our Services are more relevant and useful to you and others,” the service says.

What to do to prevent your data from being used by LinkedIn?
To prevent LinkedIn from collecting data for training AI models, you can go to the Data privacy tab in your account settings and click on “ Data for Generative AI Improvement .” Tap “ off ” to opt out of data collection .
LinkedIn says that if you do this, it won't be able to use your personal data or content in the future. However, this doesn't affect training that has already taken place.
A LinkedIn FAQ about training AI models says the platform uses “privacy-enhancing technologies to correct or remove personal data” from training sets. It also says it doesn’t train its models on people living in the European Union, the European Economic Area, or Switzerland.

This setting applies to data used to train AI models, but LinkedIn has other machine learning tools for things like personalization and curation that don't generate content. To opt out of having your data used to train them, you'll also need to fill out LinkedIn's Data Processing Objection Form.
