It appears that Sony has removed the 8K label from the PlayStation 5, which was prominently displayed on the front since the initial release.

As Digital Foundry's John Linneman noted, the new boxes now only carry the labels 4K/120 fps and HDR, no longer emphasizing that Sony's latest console supports 8K output.

IGN has reached out to Sony for comment, but in the meantime it has been confirmed that the boxes on the PlayStation Direct pages are not labeled 8K either.
Before the console's launch in 2020, Sony stated that "the PS5 will be compatible with 8K displays from the start, and after a future software updatethat can now support it, it will deliver resolutions up to 8K."
Since then, there has been virtually no real support for 8K titles, aside from a game called “The Tourist.” Furthermore, 8K TV adoption hasn’t reached a level where it’s a priority for console manufacturers.

Sony wasn't the only one pushing 8K in 2020. Microsoft also announced that the Xbox Series X would support the resolution. However, XboxPhil Spencer warned that 8K is an "ambitious technology" and that it "will take years to become - if ever - the standard in video games."
