The chain, which is hugely popular with moviegoers and known for its special guest appearances as well as the food and drinks it offers to customers, has experienced both good and bad times over the past two decades, but remains a hugely powerful brand in an industry dominated by Regal and Cinemark. According to Deadline, Alamo Drafthouse's box office numbers have seen a bigger increase than the industry average over the past two years, which is why the sale comes as a surprise. Overall, the chain grossed $134 million at the box office last year. The news that the business is looking for a buyer comes just about a week before CinemaCon, a major film conference in Las Vegas.

All fans can hope for is that this beloved entertainment industry isn't bought by some unscrupulous businessman who will empty it out and ruin the magic for everyone. Also, Alamo Drafthouse has a responsibility to make a proper sale and choose a buyer who will keep its fans happy.
