Apple Expands Self Service Repair Program to M3 MacBook Pro and iMac

Apple is expanding its Self Service Repair Program to include the latest Mac models, the M3 MacBook Pro and M3 iMac that were introduced in October of last year. Thanks to this program, users will be able to order Apple-certified parts and repair their devices themselves in the event of a malfunction.

Next month, Apple is also expected to release the Apple Diagnostics app so users can assess the performance of their machines, and an update to System Configuration will allow users to perform repairs on Macs completely independently, without having to contact the Self Service Repair support team to perform the final steps.

With System Configuration updates and the availability of the Self-Service Repair program and Apple Diagnostics, M3 Mac users will have the same access to device repairs as Apple Authorized Service Providers.

By giving users the ability to repair their devices, Apple offers them more autonomy and flexibility.

Many choose this method because they believe they can save money, as they will not have to pay for the technicians' work.

Additionally, this initiative can encourage recycling and reuse of devices, as consumers can keep devices running for a longer period of time.

Self-Service Repair programs are becoming increasingly popular, and more and more companies are offering them to their customers to comply with a recent global legislation, which requires manufacturers to offer customers access to parts and tools.

Even with the introduction of M3 Macs to Self-Service Repair, some argue that Apple still has too much control over the process. Parts are ordered from selfservicerepair.com at prices set by Apple and must be registered with Apple's configuration systems to work. Aftermarket parts are not supported, and devices often don't work with such parts.
