Tomb Raider I-III Remastered brings new graphics, controls, and trophies, refreshing our beloved series!

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered will include quality of life upgrades, such as the ability to enable modern controls and health bars for bosses. The developers have insisted on preserving the spirit of the original games and provide fans with the option to disable most of the new additions and improved visuals.
After initially being announced in September during a Nintendo Direct, the collection went largely unseen. On January 16, Aspyr product manager Chris Bashaar explained in a post on the PlayStation Blog that the company worked with Crystal Dynamics to achieve a balanced “preservative and modernized” experience. Among other things, players will be able to switch between the upgraded graphics and the originals.

Another change is the replacement of 2D sprite-based objects with new 3D models, giving more intensity to the objects collected. In addition to the visual changes, there is also a control option that uses the right stick to move the camera, and there is a camera lock system. If you prefer the original “tank controls”, you can restore them via the options.
One interesting change is the addition of health bars for bosses. This proves useful, as many of the larger enemies in the first three games could seem difficult to defeat, and it was difficult to tell how much progress you were making during the battle.
Additional improvements include over 200 trophies (or achievements on Xbox) spanning the three games in the trilogy. It seems that these trophies won't just be awarded for the usual things like completing a level or completing the game. One example mentioned in the post says that you'll get a trophy for locking the creepy servant in the mansion's freezer, a well-known tradition among Tomb Raider fans.

Finally, Asypr has added a full photo mode to all three games, allowing you to take snapshots during any level or moment in the game. You can even toggle between classic or modern graphics during photo mode.
Overall, this post has me really excited to revisit these games with a new paint job and some modern quality of life improvements. I’m especially happy to see the controls adjusted and modernized, as that’s always been my biggest stumbling block when returning to these classic adventures. But I’m also happy that the old “tank controls” are still there in the revamped trilogy. This allows everyone to play however they want, which is always nice.

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered releases on February 14th on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch , and PC. At the same time, Crystal Dynamics is partnering with Amazon Games on the next “biggest” installment in the series.
