Google Assistant: Loses a Number of Features

Google's "graveyard" is notorious and growing. The company is known for introducing new, interesting products at a rapid pace, only to abandon most of them within a few months or years (think Google Reader, Google Podcasts, and Google Hangouts). Less talked about are the features that were removed from Google's surviving products, including 17 features that are scheduled to be removed from Google Assistant.

Google’s announcement comes via a support page titled “Changes We’re Making to Google Assistant.” The company claims it’s removing “unused features” to improve your experience with Google Assistant. When a service is used by billions of people, even a feature that’s rarely used can be used regularly by hundreds of thousands of people. Maybe you’re the one using Assistant to manage your cookbook and transfer recipes from one device to another, or ask for information about your contacts, or listen to audiobooks with voice commands.

This announcement also comes on the heels of news that hundreds of people are losing their jobs at the company, some of whom work on Assistant – Google also recently announced plans to lay off employees working on Assistant, in the warehouse, and on the engineering teams.

If you use any of these features, you'll likely receive a notification letting you know when it's going to stop. See the full list here.

But let's look at the bright side: At least Google didn't completely eliminate Assistant.

Google Assistant is a voice-controlled personal assistant provided by Google. It can perform a wide range of functions to improve productivity and convenience in everyday life. One of the key functions of Google Assistant is the ability to answer questions. You can ask Google Assistant about the weather, news, sports scores, your current location, and more.

Additionally, Google Assistant can perform commands. It can help you send messages, make calls, adjust settings on smartphone , control your TV or thermostat, and more. Google Assistant is also compatible with many apps and devices. It can control smart home devices, manage your music, play YouTube, help you with navigation, and more.

Finally, Google Assistant can help you stay organized. It can set reminders, create lists, plan your day, let you know about your flights, and help you manage your calendar.
