WhatsApp Web: Preparing a new dark operating environment

Although the dark and light modes are just cosmetic changes, the difference is quite noticeable. One of the best Android messaging apps, WhatsApp, received significant improvements in December. Among the recent changes was a redesigned color scheme for the dark mode of its Android. Unfortunately, WhatsApp Web did not receive a refresh at the same time, but that may change soon.

Just this week, WhatsApp began testing sharing status updates through the website, and that’s not the only feature that the developers at Meta have been working on. In addition to sharing status updates, WhatsApp is also working on a revamped color theme for WhatsApp Web. As first reported by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is actively working on a new dark theme for website . This is great news if you’re a fan of the dark theme. Customizing the dark theme color will visually change the website to more closely match the aesthetic of the WhatsApp app for Android.

The new color scheme for WhatsApp Web closely follows the Android app’s dark mode change. As users expect a consistent look across platforms, this new design is not unexpected. Unfortunately, the web client’s new dark theme is still under development, so it’s not yet widely available. The WhatsApp app has chosen to change the gray background from the hex color code #111b20 to #12181c, a difference that is subtle but not insignificant. The new color scheme is a bit darker and will be more pleasing to the eyes during prolonged use of WhatsApp.

Connecting the redesigned visual design of the web client is an improved sidebar. According to WABetaInfo, Meta developers are hard at work developing a revamped sidebar that will complement WhatsApp’s new dark mode . Due to the growing popularity of WhatsApp Web, most of the new features are now being added to both the Android app and the web. The web app is unique in that it can work on any system with a browser, offering a flexible option for users who don’t have access to a native WhatsApp app (or don’t want to use one).

In December, WhatsApp introduced exciting updates, including the addition of articulated messages and the new ability to search for users by username. The platform continues to upgrade and test new features to improve the user experience. A refreshed dark theme for the website, which mirrors the Android app, is in line with these goals. The dark theme is also still in development and will be available on the website in the future.
