WhatsApp is adding a new feature, taking on popular competitors like Telegram and Discord.
Meta developers are thinking of original improvements for WhatsApp. A new feature suggests that Meta is working on alternative profiles for an account, allowing you to maintain your privacy without revealing it to everyone.
WhatsApp has several features that you can hide from other users, including a select list of your own contacts. You can hide the last time you were active so that you don't get bothered by other users. You can also hide recent ephemeral updates from unwanted friends and set who can see your profile picture on WhatsApp.
For the visibility of your profile picture on WhatsApp, you have four options: “Everyone”, “My Contacts”, “Nobody” and “My Contacts Except”. If you choose the latter option, you can specify the people in your contacts who will not have access to your picture. These people will see a generic gray silhouette. However, this setting may not be appropriate in many cases.

WhatsApp recently updated its beta channel to version 2.23.24.4 on Android , and it looks like the engineers at Meta are working on a new feature called “Alternate Profile,” which could be the fix we’ve been waiting for. According to WABetaInfo, this feature is available just below your privacy settings, allowing you to set an alternate profile picture and account name. A brief description below explains that WhatsApp will show this alternate profile to anyone who isn’t allowed to see your main photo and name.
This feature can be a great compromise between showing your friendly profile photo and maintaining anonymity. This way, you don't have to worry about people seeing your name and profile picture every time you change them. This is also a great setup for a corporate phone, where you can show your professional side to the world and maintain a more private, semi-anonymous side, visible only to contacts you've developed a relationship with.
The new WhatsApp feature is still in development and is not currently available even to beta testers.
