XDefiant: Delayed after being rejected by PlayStation and Xbox

Ubisoft could potentially release xDefiant somewhere between mid-September and mid-October, since it hasn't received certification from PlayStation and Xbox.

In a written update, producer Mark Rubin said that Ubisoft began the certification process for XDefiant for PlayStation and Xbox in late July. However, in mid-August, Ubisoft learned that the game received a Not Pass. If it had passed, then XDefiant would have been released in late August.

Now, Ubisoft needs to look for compliance and functionality bugs within the game and fix them so it can be released. Ubisoft plans to resubmit to first-party platforms for certification in less than two weeks. If the game passes, then it could officially launch in mid-to-late September.

Rubin also states that the game will likely receive a Conditional Pass, which means Ubisoft will have to implement a Day One Patch, and XDefiant estimates its release in early to mid-October.

"If we had followed the usual rules for game releases, we would have set a date well in advance with enough wiggle room to have a solid release date. However, like many things with this game, we didn't take the typical route," Rubin explained.

He continued: “Having millions of people playing your game long before it’s ready is not normal. Not being afraid to show an unfinished game to millions of people with all its imperfections is not normal. These were real tests, not just marketing events. So when it comes to when we’re going to release, the real answer is ‘as soon as possible.’ And we’ll continue to update you with more information as we have it.”.

XDefiant is a free-to-play first-person shooter game developed by Ubisoft San Francisco. It had several beta phases this year, including a closed beta in April and an open beta in June. It will be released for PC, PlayStation 5 , and Xbox Series X|S.

In IGN's first impressions of the first closed beta of XDefiant, they said: "It's not perfect and definitely needs a lot of fine-tuning. But the core gameplay is there and it's fun.".
