Google Workspace users are now getting a new feature to help prevent their colleagues from tampering with their documents. With the new File Lock feature in Google Drive , users can ensure the integrity of their files when sharing with their team. This feature offers a useful solution for companies whose employees often share a lot of documents and struggle with unwanted changes. While it’s not a revolutionary feature, it can certainly prove useful.
The document remains in read-only mode until it is unlocked by its owner, limiting the ability for readers to edit, comment, or submit feedback. In a blog post, Google says that this new feature will streamline the file in Drive.

The File Lock feature has already been rolled out to some Rapid Release domains and will continue to roll out for the next 15 days. Users of Rapid Release domains can expect it to be operational on September 20th.
