WhatsApp often releases updates. While some can be small, like avatar reactions to status updates, WhatsApp's upcoming update looks to be quite big, as it includes a redesign of the interface.

According to Wabetainfo, WhatsApp is in the process of redesigning its interface. The latest WhatsApp beta for Android, version 2.23.18.18, available on the Google Play Store, reveals several improvements to the app’s top bar for a future update. These improvements include changing the background color , modifying the top bar navigation, and introducing chat filters.
In early June, a change in the background color from green to white was noticed and now it is apparent that this change will be included in a future update of the app.
The WhatsApp top bar is being redesigned to include an additional menu button on the right, next to your profile. The color of this area, as well as the top status bar, has changed from green to white. The WhatsApp logo in the app bar changes color from white to green.
Additionally, WhatsApp is actively developing a new feature that will allow users to filter their conversations by sorting them into unread lists, personal conversations , or business conversations. This upcoming feature aims to give users more control when browsing their conversations.

It’s worth noting that similar changes are also underway for WhatsApp on iOS. This indicates WhatsApp’s intention to align both apps with a similar interface and feature set, with both apps adhering to the Material Design 3 guidelines. Material Design 3 is the latest version of Google’s open design system that uses dynamic colors, typography, motion, and components to create a more personalized and accessible user experience. Material 3 was designed to be used across platforms, including Android and iOS.
The new interface, which includes a white top app bar and a green app name, is currently in development and will be included in a future app update.
