Remnant 2: The best sequel of the summer

Remnant 2

The original Remnant is very clunky, a bit ugly, gets repetitive quickly, and doesn't make much sense. It feels like a game that didn't have enough of something. We don't know if it was time, money, or experience, but it was missing something. It didn't have a lot of sparkle, but it had a good central idea, and that's what counts. It always seemed like the kind of game that needed a sequel, not to wrap up the story - we're not sure it even had one - but rather to fully exploit the potential of the design. So we're incredibly happy to have Remnant 2.

Many respectable games are based on ideas that could be more. It's always exciting to see sequels that significantly improve their ideas rather than simply offering more of an already good product. Remnant 2 is an example of such a sequel, with significant improvements over its predecessor, Remnant: From the Ashes, regarding graphics, quality of life, RPG systems and replayability. It is one of the favorite RPG shooters. This is partly due to the fact that it is rare for sequels to improve significantly compared to their predecessors and partly because it is difficult to give the green light for a sequel for something less than an absolute banger.

A better RPG

Remnant 2

Remnant 2 has improved the RPG by adding more depth to the original classes, which are more numerous and meaningful. Players can dual-class to combine passive buffs and active abilities, and there are a total of 11 classes with huge buildcrafting potential. The interaction between classes and equipment has also been improved, with players being able to invest in specific positions and reap huge benefits. This adds a deep well of replayability that most RPG shooters would like. Overall, Remnant 2 offers a fun grind that encourages players to try new things and level up multiple classes to unlock powerful features.

A rare degree of repetitiveness

Remnant 2 offers a deeper and more varied gameplay experience than its predecessor, with much larger differences between playthroughs. The game features a deep well of replayability, with players encountering completely different main bosses, core enemies, environments, rewards and puzzles. Even the recurring bosses can have different modifiers that subtly change the fight. The game also offers a variety of classes that further alter the gameplay from moment to moment. Overall, Remnant 2 provides a rich and exciting experience that players can enjoy for many hours before the first DLC is released.

Suggestion: One of the best RPGs is coming to Xbox Game Pass

Remnant 2: The best sequel of the summer

Overall, the feedback for Remnant 2 is generally positive, with a few minor complaints. Some players find the friendly fire mechanic excessive and suggest adding a map overlay or a control point map view. Additionally, there are concerns about certain boss fights that are visually cluttered with particle effects, making it difficult to discern attacks, and about hitboxes that are wider than expected. There are also issues regarding the number of available mobs for two players and the scaling for three players.

Despite these minor issues, the game has exceeded expectations and is considered one of the favorite summer games, if not of the entire year. It has been praised for its smooth co‑op experience, stable performance on PC, and the enjoyment of using specific weapons such as Nightfall and the dual‑wield hunting weapon. The game even entices players to explore and experiment with other nice weapons. Compared to other notable titles like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Remnant 2 stands out as an impressive sequel.
