The first positive preview for Starfield left fans feeling incredibly optimistic about Bethesda's open-world RPG.

As we're sure you all know, Starfield is just weeks away from its final release – and the hype has reached dangerous levels. Everything we've heard so far about the game seems to position it as Bethesda's biggest and most ambitious creation, a massive sci-fi fantasy that lets you become whoever you want to be.
However, dangerous levels of hype can lead to dangerous levels of backlash. I don't need to tell you what happened with No Man's Sky and Cyberpunk 2077.And while both of those games managed to salvage their reputations with years of updates that turned them into truly brilliant adventures, no one wants to see a game fall flat upon release.
As this is a Bethesda, some fans are naturally prepared for at least some bugs, even though Bethesda itself has promised that the game's long delay has helped iron out most of the usual issues. But between that and the initial barrage of reviews from people who haven't played the game, there's definitely a cloud of uncertainty hanging over September 1st.
The good news? The one and only early hands-on look currently available for Starfield is extremely positive and seems to reassure fans.
IGN tested Starfield in June, and the general opinion from the one hour spent with the game is that it's very, very good.

While one hour is obviously not enough time to make a definitive statement about the quality of a game as big as Starfield, fans are taking IGN's praise as a very encouraging sign.
"He said an hour felt like 5 minutes. If that's not praise, I don't know what is," one user commented.
Another added: "I'm absolutely ready to get completely lost in the game world. Smuggler? Space pirate? Space marshal? Scientist? Space cowboy? Farmer? Cult leader? I think all of these will be choices you can make in Starfield. I'm so excited.".
While I certainly agree that we should definitely try to temper expectations a bit, this preview can only be good news for fans who were expecting another Fallout 76-style fiasco.
