A storm of release date changes is underway, as the most anticipated RPGs of this holiday season try to avoid overlapping. The latest domino that fell is Stray Gods, the new RPG partially developed by Dragon Age author David Gaider.

It was originally scheduled to release on August 3rd, but has been pushed back a week to August 10th. This move follows Larian Studios' decision to move the release of Baldur's Gate 3 for PC to avoid Starfield.
The developer of Stray Gods, Summerfall Studios, was honest about the decision to change the release date, saying they want to avoid Larian's giant, which has gained momentum on Steam since it revealed the infamous sex with a bear (by this we mean you can fall in love with a druid in the form of a bear).
"We want everyone to have plenty of room to check out Stray Gods when it launches. Baldur's Gate 3 is highly anticipated (by us too!) and we want to give our fans a place to celebrate Stray Gods," wrote in a statement posted to social media channels.

The delay of Stray Gods is part of a phenomenon that undoubtedly began when Starfield was delayed from 2022 to 2023. This seemed to put Todd Howard's work in line to be in direct competition with Tear of the Kingdom before eventually being moved to September. This resulted in Larian Studios postponing Baldur’s Gate 3, which in turn affected Stray Gods.
In short, the holiday season is quite packed if you are an RPG fan. Baldur’s Gate 3, Starfield and Stray Gods are gathering positive interest from fans, and this does not even include the Super Mario RPG remake on Switch that is scheduled for later this year.
Stray Gods is the first work of Summerfall Studios. It is advertised as a “role musical”, partly inspired by the famous musical episode “Once More, With Feeling” of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The scenario is signed by Gaider, who previously worked on Dragon Age and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. It uses 2D visuals with handcrafted illustrated graphics and generally looks quite wonderful.
Stray Gods is expected to be released on August 10 on Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
