Ransomware attack forces Connecticut health system to close facilities.
A cyberattack on Manchester-based Eastern Connecticut Health Network is causing the suspension and redirection of urgent care, NBC Connecticut reported on August 3.

According to the health system's website, the attack led to the closure of all primary care and specialty care centers. The disruption also caused problems at all facilities of Prospect Medical, ECHN's parent company, according to its website.
The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is currently investigating the attack.
“It was a ransomware attack,” Jillian Menzel, COO of ECHN, told News 8. “We are not sure at this time the extent of this attack. We have a team working on it. There is a national command center that is currently operational.”

The problem affected the emergency departments of the two ECHN hospitals and caused patients to be redirected from ECHN.
The health system is contacting patients whose appointments were affected by the incident.
