Google is developing Google Messages and has made several changes to create a functional design that follows its current Material You. Google added a navigation drawer to Google Messages, after removing it from many apps, in line with its own best practices. However, it's confusing for some users. However, it's a design we've had in mind for over a year. Google is now moving the content that was in the navigation drawer to an area that's more accessible at this point.

The new Messages design, which doesn’t include a drawer, is available to some beta participants . In its place is an image with the Google logo in color and the word “ Messages ” next to it. The search bar in the app has moved from the top right to a single search icon. Tap the icon to see your messages. The options that were in the drawer have been moved to your Google account menu in the top right corner, where you can also find the Messages app settings. This means that the menu includes your archive, spam , blocks, and device pairing. If you tap the search button, the starred messages section will appear.

You might think this is more similar to other Google apps, like Google Play, although the “G” logo isn’t used very often. It seems like Google is trying to make its name more visible in the appto support its RCS.

The redesigned version of the app is currently only available to beta users and will be rolling out gradually. It may take weeks for it to reach device .
