How to transfer text and URLs from Windows PC to Android via Nearby Share?

Nearby Share , a service developed by Google, allows data transfer between devices via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi . It is available on the Android and ChromeOS operating systems , as well as Microsoft Windows . It was first released on August 4, 2020.

Nearby Share for Windows helps transfer files from Windows to Android devices (and vice versa). The tool is mainly known for transferring files and folders , and many people don't know that it can also be used to transfer text or URL links from one device to another.

Google released Nearby Share for Windows a while ago, and while the app looks like it’s fully featured, it’s still in beta. It’s a work in progress, but it works without any issues. All you need to do is open Nearby Share, select the file, and choose the contact to share with.

Share text and URLs from Windows PC to Android (or vice versa)

First, to use Nearby Share to transfer between Windows and Android, you need to download and install the app on computer your. You also need a phone with Android 6 or later.

How to send text or links using Nearby Share

  • On your computer, open the Nearby Share
  • Go to the text you want to share, select it, and copy it
  • Go back to the Nearby Share app and paste it into the app
  • The app will detect it as text and change it to — Sharing Text
  • Now, select the contact shown in the right panel to share with
  • Make sure Nearby Share is enabled on your phone
  • Accept the text or URL from the phone.
  • Once you receive the text, it gives you the option to open it or copy. In case of links, only the copy option will be available.
