Google Photos on Android: Add location to pictures!

Google Photos is a great way to add location data to your photos and videos.

Location data is vital in photos and videos to help you track where they were taken, and to help you curate albums based on where your content was taken. However, if you haven't allowed the camera on your device to add location data to your images, this information won't be saved.

Luckily, there is a solution. Let's take a look at an easy way to manually add location information to a picture or video using the Google Photos on Android.

Google Photos is undoubtedly one of the best photo management apps available on Android . It provides a comprehensive all-in-one platform that helps you store, share, view, and edit photos and videos. This app comes pre-installed on most Android devices as the default gallery app – however, if it’s not already installed, you can download it for free from the Google Play Store .

Before we start the guide, it's worth noting that this method of adding location data only applies to images and videos that you've already backed up using Google Photos. So, back up the photo or video to Google Photos, if you haven't already.

Launch the Google Photos , then find and open the picture or video you want to add location information for.

Tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner of the Google Photos to open the Details for the image or video. Alternatively, you can swipe up on the photo or video to achieve the same effect.

Scroll to the bottom of the page and tap the “Add a location” option to add the location to your Google Photos.

On the next page, type the location you want in the search and select the correct one from the results that appear.

And just like that, you have added location information to your photo or video in Google Photos. To confirm, you will find a new “Map” section under “Details.” If you want to change the location, tap the pencil icon on the bottom right of the Map and continue searching for the new location of your choice.

As we've seen, adding location data to photos with Google Photos is a simple task. While this helps you better organize your videos and images, it's crucial to be mindful of your privacy when sharing photos with location information. So, when privacy becomes a concern, consider removing location data from videos and images before sharing them.

That's it! Now, when you view your photos and videos in Google Photos, they'll be tagged with their respective locations so you can easily find them later if needed.
