According to a new report, the iPhone 15 Pro Max will feature an all-new main camera sensor. This information comes from well-known tipster Ice Universe.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max could get a new main camera sensor
It is claimed that the iPhone 15 Pro Max/Ultra will feature a Sony IMX903 sensor. It is recalled that the iPhone 14 Pro Max has the Sony IMX803 sensor inside. This is a 1/1.28-inch sensor, while the IMX903 is rumored to be a 1/1.14-inch sensor.
So this is a significantly larger sensor, which should be able to capture more light and more detail. This isn't exactly the 1-inch sensor that many other companies use (IMX989), although Ice Universe seems to think it will be almost as good.
The Xiaomi 13 Ultra, OPPO Find X6 Pro, and Vivo X90 Pro(+) currently hold the top spot with 1-inch camera sensors. All three of these phones do a great job when it comes to photography , and it will be interesting to see what Apple can do with a new camera sensor.
It seems that the iPhone 15 Pro will not have the same cameras as its sibling.
Now, you'll notice that the tipster didn't mention the iPhone 15 Pro in his tweet - he was very specific, only mentioning the iPhone 15 Pro Max/Ultra. The iPhone 15 Pro may not get the same main camera sensor.
This would be an odd move from Apple, as it usually offers the same optics on both of its “Pro” phones. Not including the same optics this time would create a significant gap between the two phones, especially if that were the case with the main camera.
If the iPhone 15 Pro doesn't end up getting the IMX903 sensor, Apple will likely stick with the IMX803 sensor. It remains to be seen, but it would certainly be a shame, as it would require people to get a big phone if they want the best camera Apple has to offer.
