The major Android manufacturers have joined forces to make switching between phones easier than ever. With this unified effort, switching devices has become a seamless experience that anyone can manage with ease.
Despite multiple versions of the operating system, switching from one top Android device to another is still a difficult task. You can easily switch your Google account and associated data between models, but the same is not true for app information. While you may be able to move files and app data from one Pixel phone to another, it’s not always reliable, as many third-party apps don’t support this feature – until now! Three of the top Chinese Android manufacturers – Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo – have teamed up to make life easier for users by allowing them to transfer their app data between their devices with ease.
In an announcement on Weibo, the three companies revealed that the migration tool on their phones will be updated to support transferring third-party app data. So, the next time you switch between phones from Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi, you can do so without worrying about losing app data or having to set up all your third-party apps again .

Currently, transferring third-party app data is mostly successful when switching from one device to another of the same manufacturer. Switching to a phone from an alternative Android brand unfortunately does not yield any success in this area.
Unfortunately, the data transfer tool is only available for devices in China and won't be rolling out to international markets. This will be a huge help for Android users based in China who don't have access to Google's built-in data backup feature, as well as other Google services like Google Photos and Drive.

This isn’t the first time that three of China’s biggest Android manufacturers have come together to offer a better end-user experience. In January 2020, Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi collaborated on a unified file sharing solution to make it easier to send files between devices . A month later, these companies joined forces with Huawei to form the Global Developer Service Alliance (GDSA). This allowed developers in China to upload apps to the Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo app stores simultaneously.
Let's hope Google works with device manufacturers to ensure a more reliable third-party app data transfer experience for Android users around the world.
