Google's Pixel 8 Pro could come with a new feature not usually found on phones. 91mobiles has posted a video from tipster Kuba Wojciechowski that shows what looks like a Pixel device being used to measure a person's temperature. Yes, if the leak is legit, the upcoming Pixel flagship will have a built-in thermometer. The video shows an infrared sensor similar to those used in non-contact thermometers inside the metal panel where the rear cameras are located.

Based on the demonstration of the built-in thermometer, users have to remove their glasses or any other eye and forehead accessories. They then have to bring the sensor as close to their forehead as possible, without actually touching it, and move their phone towards their temple within 5 seconds. 91mobiles claims that the sensor can also be used to measure the temperature of inanimate objects, but the video didn’t show how that would work. Google employees have reportedly tested this feature.

Previous leaked computer renders showed the Pixel 8 Pro as a rounded version of the Pixel 7, and this new video shows a device that is identical to those renders. While the upcoming phone bears many physical similarities to its predecessor, its three rear cameras are now housed within a single module. On the Pixel 7 Pro, one of the three camera sensors was on a separate module.
A thermometer might be an interesting addition to a phone, especially now that pandemic-related measures are no longer in place. It should be noted that this is just a rumor and it remains to be seen whether the Pixel 8 Pros that will be released to buyers will actually feature the sensor.
The 91mobiles had already been deleted due to a copyright claim, but one of the publication's readers tweeted a copy that we've embedded below.
