Marne Levine: Meta's Chief Business Officer is leaving the company

After thirteen years at Meta, Chief Business Officer Marne Levinewill be leaving the company, according to a recent announcement.

Levine will retain her role until Feb. 21, remaining an employee of Meta until she officially leaves in the summer (to ensure a smooth transition). Levine’s role will be split between her successor, Nicola Mendelsohn , and Justin Osofsky, according to Meta’s post. Nicola Mendelsohn and Justin Osofsky are taking on expanded roles as senior sales and partnerships leaders, representing the company. “This new structure continues to bring our business and product teams closer together and help them operate even more effectively to serve our customers,” the announcement says.

The changes are notable in light of announcements made by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerbergin the company’s fourth-quarter earnings report. Zuckerberg noted that 2023 will be the “year of efficiency” and added, “we are focused on becoming a stronger and more agile organization.”

As for Marne Levine, she has been a key figure at Meta, holding many different leadership roles over the years. She previously served as Vice President of global public policy at Facebook, Vice President of global partnerships, business and corporate development at Facebook, and Chief Operating Officer at Instagram.

Marne Levine: Meta's Chief Business Officer is leaving the company

Marne Levine was the first COO of Instagram and was instrumental in making the app one of Meta's foundational apps alongside Facebook.

Levine was appointed Facebook's Chief Business Officer in the summer of 2021, a few months before the company changed its name to Meta to show its focus on the metaverse and not exclusively fit into the app .

A Meta spokesperson told Insider via email: “After nearly 13 years, Marne has made the personal decision to leave Meta. With Meta’s business moving in the right direction and a strong strategy and leadership team in place, Marne felt that now was the right time to focus on the next chapter outside the company.” The spokesperson also emphasized that Marne Levine’s contributions have been significant in all of her roles at Meta.
