1/5 of IT professionals do not feel secure when working remotely. So we need to understand the security risks that many employees face on a daily basis and how businesses can address them with the right security awareness training.
Common security traps
Research shows that a large percentage of people working remotely have access to important data. In addition, teleworking is not limited to just one device and so access to corporate accounts is done from more than one, resulting in many confidential files being stored and shared on unsecured networks. Unfortunately, cloud attacks have risen rapidly. Since 2022, there has been a 50% increase in these cyber attacks in Europe.

Sharing via private chat applications like WhatsApphas become a part of every business life as many confidential files are transferred through them. Businesses are increasingly falling victim to attacks as they lack the ability to control the security of their personal networks.
14% of cybersecurity professionals admit that their organizations have been attacked related to remote work. Cybercriminals know how much work from home has increased and are trying to break into corporate networks through personal devices. Unfortunately, companies can’t be sure that their employees are using secure networks and devices, which increases the risk even further.

How IT departments can change it
We must understand that the risk of remote work exists. We therefore propose that relevant security systems be activated and that employees receive security awareness training so that they can deal with the risk to some extent.
As the number of employees working from home increases every day, traditional solutions for securing files are not enough. By 2023, it is certain that 50% of companies intend to integrate teleworking much more, and this means that businesses will have to think and find out how to be prepared for the possibility of multiple attacks and threats.
It is important to note that 43% of IT workers feel that they are not protected enough or not at all. Security awareness training plays an important role in building a strong cybersecurity system. By implementing a comprehensive yet inclusive training program, employees will be more aware of the threats and how some of their actions can put the organization at risk. However, security awareness training alone is not enough and therefore there should be a security solution that includes strong operational security for prevention, as well as backup capabilities for data.
Finally, it should be noted that it is much more financially beneficial for organizations to invest in a strong virtual system along with security awareness training for employees to be better informed about a possible attack that could prove much worse.
