Let's be honest, it's no secret that Microsoft often causes more problems than it solves with the Patch Tuesday updates. And it seems that something like that happened this time with the KB5021233 update that was released with the December 2022 Patch Tuesday updates.

The latest Patch Tuesday updates result in error 0xc000021a
Microsoft releases the Patch Tuesday updates to Windows users in an effort to keep their systems safe from cyber threats. However, sometimes these downloads can be problematic and cause issues for users.
Just a few days after this month's release, Microsoft published a concerning report that the cumulative update KB5021233 of the December Patch Tuesday for Windows 10 22H2, 21H2 and 21H1 causes serious malfunctions.
With this, it means that it actually produces a Blue Screen of Death (or BSOD) with error code 0xc000021a on certain systems due to a mismatch between HIDPARSE system files (hidparse.sys) in two different system directories.
On the health dashboard website, Microsoft explained that after installing KB5021233, there may be a mismatch between the versions of the hidparse.sys files in c:/windows/system32 and c:/windows/system32/drivers (assuming Windows is installed on the C: drive).

This situation can actually cause signature validation to fail during cleanup, which will lead to BSOD.
As expected, the company has created a temporary solution for this issue while it works to find a long-term and secure solution.

Patch Tuesday is a term that refers to the second Tuesday of each month, when Microsoft releases fixes and updates for its products. These updates aim to address security vulnerabilities and keep users' computers safe from potential threats. It is important to note that these patches are not cumulative— they only address the new issues that arose from the latest version of the patch
