Twitter on Sunday night revoked a new, controversial policy that banned links to other platforms , less than a day after it was initially implemented.

The development comes shortly after company owner Elon Musk launched a poll on Twitter asking users whether he should step down as CEO of the platform. The poll is expected to end today.
Twitter CEO Elon Musk recently announced that the platform will no longer allow free promotion, which generally refers to posting an account on another social networking site.
Twitter's support account made a post stating that it will no longer allow free promotion of other social media platforms on its site. It stated that they understand that many users are active elsewhere, but they encourage them to stay on Twitter. They also said that they will remove accounts that exist solely to promote other social platforms and content that references or mentions other services.

After a huge public outcry, Twitter removed the blog in which it had previously listed rival websites that were not allowed to link to Twitter. These included well-known social networking sites like Facebook and Instagram, as well as Mastodon and Truth Social.
Additionally, Twitter deleted a tweet thread from the @TwitterSupport, which had announced this policy earlier in the day.

The company's @TwitterSafetyis now conducting a poll to see if users believe the platform should "have a policy that prevents the creation or use of existing accounts to advertise other social media platforms." The poll ends Monday night at 9 p.m. Eastern Time.
