Elon Musk: He wants to bring back the Vine app that belonged to Twitter

Twitter's new owner and CEO, Elon Musk, is considering bringing back Vine, a short-form video app that Twitter acquired about 10 years ago. However, Twitter has neglected the app. Vine was essentially a service similar to TikTok.

The potential revival of Vine shows that Elon Musk, from his first week as head of Twitter, has a lot of ideas and changes in mind .

A person working at Twitter has revealed that the social network is in discussions about a possible Vine revival. The person asked to remain anonymous. This was first reported by Axios.

It's not clear exactly how Vine's relaunch and redesign will work, and how it will fit in with other changes Twitter is making, such as layoffs and other cost-cutting measures.

Musk did a poll about bringing back Vine and 70% were in favor.

Several social media celebrities who were once popular on the Vine app have shown interest in its potential return.

Zach King showed his approval of Musk's statement by responding with a heart emoji.

Lele Pons was so excited about Elon Musk's idea that she quickly retweeted his post, writing: "Yes, please @elonmusk. Do it!!!"

Musk also asked for some ideas on how a potential new Vine could be improved to be better than TikTok.

He wrote in response to Jimmy Donaldson, better known as MrBeast, who is one of YouTube, "What could we do to make it better than TikTok?"

According to Axios, Musk wants a reboot that could happen by the end of this year.

However, others argue that bringing back Vine may not be as easy as it seems, given that Twitter discontinued the app in 2016. Sara Beykpour, a former Twitter employee who worked on Vine, said that Vine's original software may be too outdated for today's standards. Beykpour said the code is very old and suggested that work should be done from scratch rather than simply updating existing code.

Twitter bought Vine in 2012 for $30 million, CNBC reported. Like TikTok, the app allowed users to create short videos.

Vine wasn't as popular as Twitter had hoped, so it decided to shut it down in 2016.

Rus Yusupov, co-founder of Vine, tweeted that Vine failed because it didn't build the right features fast enough, creators weren't making money from the platform , and it refused to embrace videos as a popular trend — something TikTok later did.
